Warriors Beat the Clippers 124-112: Rookie Yaxel Lendeborg Scores 37 Points as Golden State Wins Its Fourth Straight Without Curry and Green
The preview said Golden State would go for a fourth straight win without its two stars. A rookie made sure of it - 37 points, six 3-pointers, and the most points by a Warriors rookie since Stephen Curry himself.
Rookie Yaxel Lendeborg scored a career-high 37 points and dished out six assists, and the Golden State Warriors, resting stars Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, beat the Los Angeles Clippers 124-112 on Sunday night in San Francisco for their fourth straight win, the Associated Press reported. Lendeborg drained six 3-pointers and shot 13-for-19 from the field, Reuters reported.
The Clippers started faster. Los Angeles led by as many as 11 in the first quarter and took the quarter 37-29, but Golden State opened the second period on an 11-2 run and led 63-57 at halftime, Reuters reported. Lendeborg scored five straight points midway through the third quarter to give the Warriors their biggest lead to that point at 83-68, the AP reported, on his way to his fourth game of 20 or more points. De'Anthony Melton added 21 points and Brandon Williams and Brandin Podziemski scored 17 apiece.
Rui Hachimura had 24 points and Kobe Sanders scored 16 off the bench for the Clippers, who lost their fifth game in a row, the AP reported. Golden State improved to 4-3 and Los Angeles fell to 1-5, according to the NBA's highlights listing. Curry and Green, who had the night off for the front end of a back-to-back, are expected back when the Warriors host the Phoenix Suns on Monday night; the Clippers host the Toronto Raptors on Monday.
