Tesla Cybercabs Now Outnumber Model Ys in the Authorized Texas Robotaxi Fleet — 544 of 1,051 Vehicles
Texas motor vehicle data reported this week lists 544 purpose-built Cybercabs among Tesla's 1,051 authorized robotaxi vehicles in Texas, the first time the Cybercab has formed the majority of the fleet — and the company's AI chief has said Austin is where it wants them everywhere.

Cybercabs now outnumber Model Ys in Tesla's authorized Texas robotaxi fleet for the first time, according to Texas Department of Motor Vehicles data reported by Stocktwits and carried by Gotrade News. The registry lists 1,051 authorized vehicles in the fleet, of which 544 are Cybercabs and 507 are Model Ys. As recently as early October, the same registry showed about 319 Cybercabs and 420 Model Ys, the report said.
Austin is the fleet's home ground in the company's own telling. Tesla Vice President of AI Ashok Elluswamy said the company wants to "swarm Austin with Cybercabs everywhere," according to Stocktwits as reported by Gotrade. On its third-quarter earnings call, Tesla said it plans to add Cybercabs in Dallas next month and aims to offer them to fleet customers by year-end, though most will remain Tesla-owned, the report said. "Right now, we're building at the rate that the Robotaxi service needs the vehicles," Vice President of Vehicle Engineering Lars Moravy said, per the same report.
The registry figure comes with a clear limit, and the report states it directly: the Texas data counts authorized vehicles, not whether they are operating or giving rides on any given day. An authorized Cybercab on the state list is not proof of a car carrying passengers on Austin streets that day.
Investors reacted to the build-out on Tuesday. Tesla shares closed at $407.46 on October 27, up 4.04 percent, ahead of the Nasdaq Composite's 1.18 percent gain, Gotrade reported, with volume of 45.3 million shares against a 30-day average of 36.7 million. The shares remain below their 52-week high of $498.83, the report said.
