Travis County's early voters are closing in on the county's last midterm benchmark with a week still to run. After seven days of early voting, 256,222 voters had cast ballots early or by mail - about 77.5 percent of the 330,658 who voted early in the entire 2022 midterm - according to the county tally compiled from Travis County Clerk figures.

The weekend kept the pace. Saturday added 25,450 ballots and Sunday added 18,733, after weekday totals last week ran about 39,000 to 41,000 a day. To match 2022's final early total, the county needs 74,436 more ballots over the five remaining days - about 14,900 a day, well below last week's weekday pace.

Five days remain. Early voting runs through Friday, October 30, with polls open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and extended hours until 10 p.m. at some locations on Thursday and Friday. Travis County voters may cast a ballot at any open site in the county, and voters must present an acceptable photo ID to vote in person; locations and wait times are posted at votetravis.gov.

Voters who miss early voting can still vote on Election Day, Tuesday, November 3, when polls are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and the county plans to operate 201 polling locations. The Politics Desk will update the tally as the county posts each day's count through the Friday close.
