Campaign for Control of Congress Enters Its Final Weekend With Early Voting Past 49 Million
More than 49 million Americans have already voted — a record for a midterm — as the fight for Congress reaches its last weekend, with all 435 House seats and 35 Senate races decided on Tuesday.

The campaign for control of Congress reached its final weekend on Saturday with a turnout number already in the record books: more than 49 million Americans have cast ballots early, in person or by mail, according to the University of Florida's Election Lab — a record for a midterm election, up from nearly 46 million who voted before Election Day in the last midterms, in 2022, Reuters reported.
Everything is on Tuesday's ballot: all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 35 races in the 100-member Senate. A Democratic victory in one or both chambers could bring congressional investigations of the Trump administration, which for two years has governed with largely compliant Republican majorities, Reuters reported.
President Donald Trump, who has been on a campaign blitz in multiple states over the past month, was not scheduled to travel on Saturday — a day Reuters described as a mash-up of American traditions: politics, Halloween and college football. He returns to the campaign trail on Sunday in Kansas and Iowa.
For Austin and Travis County, the local shape of the same story is already set: early voting closed Friday with record county numbers, and Election Day voting runs Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the county's vote centers, as this station's Election Day guide details.
