Cam Coleman Leaves the Mississippi State Game and Does Not Return — the Second Straight Week Texas Loses Its Receiver

Texas's 31-3 rout of Mississippi State came with a cost the Longhorns have now paid twice. Wide receiver Cam Coleman, who opened the scoring Saturday, left in the second quarter with an undisclosed injury, returned in street clothes, and did not play again.

The win was comfortable; the sight on the sideline was not. Texas wide receiver Cam Coleman left Saturday's 31-3 victory over Mississippi State midway through the second quarter with an undisclosed injury and did not return, 247Sports reported — the second consecutive week Coleman has exited a game and stayed out.

The cruel part is how his night began. Coleman caught Texas's first pass of the game for 47 yards and followed it one play later with a 14-yard touchdown reception to open the scoring. He was on the sideline for Texas's fourth offensive drive, walked to the locker room midway through that possession, and came back after halftime in street clothes, 247Sports reported.

The pattern is what makes it a story beyond one night. Coleman left last Saturday's win over Ole Miss after landing awkwardly on his shoulder on a jumping catch attempt on the first play of the third quarter, and also did not return. He opened this week listed as probable on the SEC availability report before being removed from it entirely by Thursday evening — cleared, in other words, and then out again before halftime. Texas has not named the injury from Saturday, and this story does not guess at one.

Texas, 6-2 and ranked No. 11, travels to Missouri on November 7, and Coleman's status will sit on the availability report all week. The Longhorns' defense — 187 yards allowed against the Bulldogs, plus Maraad Watson's 61-yard fumble-return touchdown — gives them margin. But a passing game that opened Saturday by going straight to Coleman twice has now watched him walk to the locker room in back-to-back games.
