Weekend Road Work: SH 71 Flyovers to I-35 Close Nightly, and US 183 Southbound Loses Lanes Overnight Through Nov. 6
TxDOT's Capital Express South work shuts the Ben White flyovers to southbound I-35 from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., and the 183 North project takes southbound lanes and an entrance ramp overnight. Both windows cover tonight. Downtown, Sixth Street is closed to cars from 4 p.m. for Halloween.

The biggest overnight closures in Austin this weekend sit on the south side. TxDOT's I-35 Capital Express South project is closing the flyovers that carry eastbound and westbound SH 71 — Ben White Boulevard — onto southbound I-35, nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., for bridge column work. The closures continue intermittently through late 2026, which in TxDOT's framing means they are scheduled for tonight, not guaranteed for any single night.
The detours are posted with them: eastbound SH 71 drivers exit at South Congress Avenue and follow the frontage road, while westbound drivers exit at Burleson Road and Woodward Street to reach the frontage road and the interstate.
North of downtown, the 183 North Mobility Project holds its overnight pattern through Nov. 6. The southbound US 183 entrance ramp from Anderson Mill Road closes overnight, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., with drivers detoured to the Spicewood Springs Road entrance ramp. And three lanes at a time close nightly on southbound US 183 between Lakeline Boulevard and Burnet Road, from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., on the same through-Nov. 6 schedule — tonight and Sunday night included.
The rest of the usual suspects are quiet, at least officially: a check of TxDOT Austin District and project sources turned up no current weekend closures posted for MoPac (Loop 1), SH 45 or US 290.
One more closure, and it is not construction: downtown, East and West Sixth Street close to vehicles at 4 p.m. Saturday for Halloween night, from Brazos to Red River, with towing in prohibited areas — Austin police expect up to 100,000 people in the entertainment districts before the night is out.
