US 183 Frontage Roads Carry the 183 North Work Now: The Closure List North Austin Drivers Face Tonight
The 183 North Mobility Project is in its finishing months, and the work has moved to the edges. For the evening drive, it is the US 183 frontage roads - lane by lane, from Loop 360 to RM 620 - that carry the project's long list of ongoing closures.

North Austin's evening drive runs through a frontage-road project now. The 183 North Mobility Project is nearing completion - its fourth general-purpose lane in each direction opened back in August 2024, and the 183 Express Lanes began their phased opening in early 2026, including the direct connector to MoPac - but the project's own Major Activity page says finishing work continues over the remaining months of 2026, and its Ongoing Closures list is long, specific and almost entirely on the frontage roads.
Northbound, the frontage road loses its left lane north of Loop 360, with the northbound-to-southbound U-turn there closed as well. The left lane is closed from Great Hills Trail to Braker Lane, again from Balcones Woods Drive to the Duval Road exit ramp, and from Pond Springs Road through Anderson Mill Road to Lake Creek. The right lane is closed from Duval Road to the Oak Knoll Drive exit ramp, and the left lane runs closed from Pecan Park Boulevard to eastbound RM 620. On the MoPac frontage road, the left lane north of Steck Avenue is closed.
Southbound mirrors it: the left lane from RM 620 to Pecan Park Boulevard - that U-turn is closed too - then south of Lake Creek Parkway to Anderson Mill Road, from Spicewood Springs Road to Oak Knoll Drive and from Oak Knoll Drive to the Duval Road exit ramp, with the U-turns at Oak Knoll and Balcones Woods both closed. The right lane is closed from the Braker Lane on-ramp to Great Hills Trail, and the left lane south of Loop 360. On the southbound MoPac side, the frontage road loses its left lane north of Steck Avenue and its right lane from the Steck Avenue collector-distributor exit to Spicewood Springs Road and Anderson Lane - and the Steck Avenue entrance ramp to the southbound MoPac mainlanes is itself on the closure list.
The practical read for tonight: the mainlanes and the new express lanes are the through route, and the frontage roads are a lane-by-lane local trip - anyone whose drive depends on a frontage U-turn at Loop 360, Pecan Park, Oak Knoll or Balcones Woods needs another plan. The project page warns that its schedule and activity details are subject to change with weather or other logistical factors - and with rain moving in this afternoon, that warning is live.
