Abbott and Paxton Rally Wichita Falls Voters on Monday as Tight Statewide Races Enter the Final Week
Gov. Greg Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton headlined a Monday rally at McBride's Steakhouse in Wichita Falls, urging Republican turnout with every major statewide race polling within a few points.

The final week of campaigning in Texas took Gov. Greg Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton to Wichita Falls on Monday, where a large crowd turned out at McBride's Steakhouse on Maplewood Avenue for a Republican rally, the Wichita Falls Times Record News reported. Abbott is running for reelection, and Paxton is running for U.S. Senate.
Every speaker at the rally said Republican turnout is critical in what some polls show as tight races in Texas, the paper reported. State Rep. James Frank of Wichita Falls advised supporters to use an app that shows who has not voted and to urge friends on the list to go to the polls.
Abbott, who is challenged by Democratic state Rep. Gina Hinojosa, promoted his affordability plan, saying it would save the average Texas family $3,000 a year and make Texas the most affordable state in the country. Paxton, who faces Democratic state Rep. James Talarico in the Senate race, said his agenda is to fight for every Texan to be able to buy a home, raise a family and live a healthy life without struggling to make ends meet, and he criticized Talarico on transgender issues and energy, saying Talarico wants to 'transition Texas out of oil and gas.' Both were the candidates' own claims, made to their supporters.
The turnout push has a big electorate behind it. Secretary of State Robert Howden announced on October 16 that Texas had a record 19 million registered voters ahead of the election, and more than 4.2 million Texans had voted early or by mail as of Sunday. Early voting runs through Friday, October 30, and Election Day is Tuesday, November 3.
