Sen. Chris Murphy Hospitalized After a Stroke: Awake, Alert at Johns Hopkins, and Expected to Make a Full Recovery, His Office Says
The Connecticut Democrat, 53, felt numbness in his arm at his son's hockey game on Saturday. By Sunday his office was announcing a stroke, a transfer to Johns Hopkins - and an optimistic prognosis, two days before the midterms.

Democratic U.S. Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut was hospitalized after suffering a stroke, his chief of staff said on Sunday, Reuters reported.
Murphy began experiencing numbness in his arm while attending his son's hockey game on Saturday afternoon, chief of staff Allison Herwitt said in the office's statement. He was taken to a local hospital, where it was discovered he had experienced a stroke, and was transferred to Johns Hopkins for further monitoring, where he is responding well to treatment, the statement said. He is awake and alert, the doctors are encouraged by his progress, and his office is optimistic he will make a full recovery, CNN reported from the same statement.
Murphy, 53, has served in the Senate since 2013 after representing Connecticut's 5th District in the House. The news drew a cross-party response on Sunday: Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman, who suffered a stroke during his own 2022 campaign, said he hoped Murphy would enjoy a full and speedy recovery, and President Donald Trump - a frequent target of Murphy's criticism - told reporters he was surprised by the news and would consider reaching out at the right time, CNN reported. Murphy had been scheduled to campaign in New Hampshire on Sunday alongside Rep. Chris Pappas; that appearance is off as he recovers, two days before Tuesday's midterm elections.
