Hinojosa Brings Her Governor's Campaign to Waco in the Final Week, Leading With Schools and Affordability
Democratic nominee Gina Hinojosa told a Waco crowd Tuesday that her campaign runs on 'no te dejes' — know your worth and fight to defend it — as she pressed her case on public schools, household costs and her court fight over the governor's emails with Elon Musk.

With Election Day one week away, Democratic candidate for governor Gina Hinojosa brought her campaign to Waco on Tuesday, making her final appeals to voters in the closing stretch of the Texas governor's race, KWBU reported.
"I launched this campaign with this saying: no te dejes," she told the gathered crowd. "What it means is know your work and fight to defend it. And that is the kind of people Texans are." Hinojosa has run largely on a promise to strengthen Texas public schools and increase affordability in the state. "Our public schools are the gateway to the American dream," she said. "They provide the opportunity to reach the American dream."
The Waco stop came a day after a judge sided with Hinojosa in the lawsuit she filed for access to emails between Governor Greg Abbott's office and Elon Musk. Reviewing those emails, she told KWBU after the rally, is part of her duties as a state legislator. "Those are taxpayer dollars. I deserve to know what is happening, what those negotiations — those conversations have been looking like," she said, adding that redacting large portions of the emails was "highly suspicious."
Her closing-week platform, as she described it in Waco, includes refunding what she calls the "Greg Abbott corruption tax" with $1,500 payments to each Texas family, freezing electricity rates and removing tax on gas and diesel to lower prices at the pump, KWBU reported. Early voting in Texas runs through Friday, October 30. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3.
