World Series Game 5: Brewers Lead the Rays 4-0 in the Bottom of the Ninth, Three Outs From Their First Championship
Milwaukee is three outs from the first World Series title in franchise history. The Brewers lead Tampa Bay 4-0 in the bottom of the ninth inning of Game 5 at Tropicana Field, behind 5 2/3 scoreless innings from Jacob Misiorowski — who left in the sixth with an apparent right-leg injury.

Three outs. That is all that stands between the Milwaukee Brewers and the first World Series championship in franchise history: Milwaukee leads the Tampa Bay Rays 4-0 in the bottom of the ninth inning of Game 5 at Tropicana Field, in a game the Brewers have controlled from the second inning on.
Milwaukee built the lead an inning at a time — one run in the second, one in the fifth, and two in the sixth. The sixth broke it open: Christian Yelich was hit by a pitch, William Contreras doubled him home for his fourth RBI of the series, Brice Turang singled, and Cooper Pratt's sacrifice fly scored Contreras for 4-0. Pratt has seven RBIs in this World Series. Tampa Bay has three hits all night.
The one shadow on the night is the ace. Jacob Misiorowski threw 5 2/3 scoreless innings — two hits, one walk, two strikeouts — then left in the bottom of the sixth after appearing to hurt his right leg; he walked off under his own power and JoJo Romero recorded the final out of the inning. The 24-year-old is the front-runner for the National League Cy Young Award after a 16-5 season with a 1.80 ERA.
Milwaukee leads the series 3-1 — wins of 3-2, 5-4 and 10-1, before Tampa Bay's 4-3, 12-inning win on Tuesday forced this Game 5. This is a live file, staged with the game in the bottom of the ninth; the Sports Desk will file the final result in the next cycle.
