President Donald Trump plans to deliver his midterms closing speech on Monday at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington, the Wall Street Journal's live election coverage reported, as candidates across the country make their final pitches ahead of Tuesday's vote. The White House announced the Monday afternoon speech hours after Trump returned from his final campaign appearances in Iowa and Kansas on Sunday, according to MEAWW's report.

Democrats spent the same final day on the road. The party teed up final get-out-the-vote rallies Monday on the eve of elections where it expects to win at least partial control of Congress and impose political constraints on Trump for the first time in two years, AFP reported. Trump, addressing supporters on Sunday, said, 'We're going to win,' AFP reported. In Texas, the Journal noted, Democratic Senate nominee James Talarico appears at an event in Austin tonight, and the state's early voting broke a midterm record.

The closing polls frame the stakes without settling them. An NBC News poll released Sunday showed 60 percent of Americans disapprove of Trump's performance, AFP reported, while the final New York Times/Siena poll, released Sunday evening, showed Democratic candidates leading in all seven seats viewed as most competitive - though five remained within the margin of error. Whatever Tuesday brings, much of the country has already decided: a record 54 million people had cast early ballots before Election Day, AFP reported. The Reflecting Pool setting carries its own subplot: the renovation Trump championed in April finished nearly three months behind schedule at more than 10 times his initial roughly $1.5 million estimate, MEAWW reported, and Trump told reporters the site was chosen 'to show how beautiful it is.'
