Texas Injury Report: Colin Simmons Is Questionable for Mississippi State, Trevor Goosby Is Out and Three Longhorns Are Probable (AUSTIN CAPITAL NEWS)

The biggest name on Saturday's injury report is the one in the middle column. Colin Simmons, the Texas edge rusher who leads the SEC with 10.5 sacks, is listed as questionable on the initial SEC availability report released Wednesday for the Longhorns' Halloween night game against Mississippi State at Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium — No. 11 Texas (5-2, 3-2 SEC) against the Bulldogs (4-3, 2-3 SEC), kicking off at 6:30 p.m. Saturday on ESPN.

Simmons missed the first game of his Texas career last week against Ole Miss. Longhorns Wire reports the junior suffered a high ankle sprain against Florida two weeks ago and was expected to miss three to four weeks — a questionable tag, roughly a 50-50 chance to play, would put his return ahead of that schedule. He remains the nation's sack leader despite playing in just six games.

The rest of the Texas list is one season-ender and three likely returns. Left tackle Trevor Goosby is out — his knee injury against Ole Miss ends his season, though reports say his surgery went well — and freshman edge Richard Wesley is also out. Probable: running back Hollywood Smothers, who has missed the Tennessee and Ole Miss games and is expected back with Raleek Brown still taking the bulk of the carries, and wide receivers Cam Coleman, who landed hard on his shoulder against Ole Miss, and Kaliq Lockett.

Mississippi State's list is headed by its quarterback room: Kamario Taylor, who underwent season-ending foot surgery on Wednesday, is out, along with four other Bulldogs, while starting safety Isaac Smith and left guard DJ Chester are questionable. The availability report updates nightly until 90 minutes before kickoff, and the Sports Desk will follow Simmons's status through the week.
