Texas Flips 2027 Linebacker Jason Crenshaw From Georgia Tech After His Austin Visit (AUSTIN CAPITAL NEWS)

Texas has flipped a linebacker out of Alabama. Jason Crenshaw, a 2027 prospect from Prattville, Alabama, has changed his commitment from Georgia Tech to Texas, On3 reported, following an official visit to Austin over the weekend. Crenshaw had committed to the Yellow Jackets during the summer and stayed solid with them into the fall; Texas offered earlier this season and kept pursuing him until the visit closed the deal.

The visit gave him the full weekend: he was on campus for Texas's win over Ole Miss, and he came away talking about fit rather than spectacle. 'It was hard,' Crenshaw told Rivals. 'I thought about it for a day or so coming off the visit, but then talking with my parents and talking with my coaches at my school, I was just like, this is it.'

The meeting that mattered most, by his account, was with linebackers coach Johnny Nansen, who walked him through Texas's defensive plans. 'He's very honest,' Crenshaw said. 'He's very strict, very stern. Coach Nansen's a fun guy, but very strict and stern when it comes down to the game of football. I really like his attention to detail. He was teaching me certain things during the meeting that could help me where I am currently right now.'

He also said the Longhorns made him feel wanted throughout the weekend, including a moment before the Ole Miss game when head coach Steve Sarkisian stopped to acknowledge him during the team's arrival. Crenshaw is a member of the 2027 class, so his signing is more than a year away and his commitment is verbal - but flips this late in a pursuit, out of another Power conference program's class, are the kind Texas's staff counts as wins in October.
