Nintendo Switch 2 Zelda Edition Launches Thursday for $519.99 — and the Console Does Not Include the Game (AUSTIN CAPITAL NEWS)

Thursday is launch day for the year's most collectible game console. Nintendo's Switch 2 — The Legend of Zelda — 40th Anniversary Edition goes on sale October 29, a limited-edition machine in black, gold and green with Triforce designs, released to mark four decades of the Zelda series and to arrive one week before the Ocarina of Time remake on November 5. 'Nintendo switch 2 zelda edition' was among the U.S. trending searches on Wednesday evening.

The U.S. price is $519.99 — $20 more than a standard Switch 2 — with a matching anniversary Pro Controller at $99.99 and a carrying case with screen protector at $39.99, according to the trackers that have checked Nintendo's store listings. One detail catches buyers out: the console does not include the game. Ocarina of Time is sold separately and arrives a week later.

Getting one is the hard part. The anniversary hardware sold out almost as soon as preorders opened in September, and Nintendo's own store listed the console and controller as unavailable as of October 21. A limited number of units have been set aside for in-store sale on launch day, including at Nintendo's Manhattan store, where entry to the sale event requires a Warp Pipe Pass. Nintendo has acknowledged it underestimated demand and says replenishments of the console, controller and software are being planned — but it has announced no restock dates or quantities.

For Austin buyers, the honest summary is: Thursday is the launch, stock is scarce by design and by demand, and anyone who misses out is waiting on a restock Nintendo has promised but not scheduled. The game itself — the Ocarina of Time remake — follows on November 5.
