Northbound I-35 Mainlanes Close Between Slaughter Lane and William Cannon Drive at Midnight on Tuesday and Wednesday Nights
TxDOT closes the northbound mainlanes for elevated managed-lane work from midnight to 5 a.m. both nights, sending drivers off at William Cannon Drive to the frontage road — while the SH 71 flyovers to southbound I-35 keep their nightly 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. closures.

Northbound I-35's mainlanes between Slaughter Lane and William Cannon Drive will close nightly on Tuesday, October 27 and Wednesday, October 28, from midnight to 5 a.m., according to the Texas Department of Transportation's I-35 Capital Express South project page. The closures are for work on the project's elevated managed lanes.
The signed detour is short. Northbound drivers will exit at William Cannon Drive (exit 228), continue on the northbound I-35 frontage road, and re-enter the mainlanes at the next available entrance ramp, per TxDOT.
The Slaughter-to-William Cannon closure is not the corridor's only night work. The eastbound and westbound SH 71/Ben White Boulevard flyovers to southbound I-35 will keep experiencing nightly closures from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., continuing intermittently through late 2026, for bridge column work. Eastbound SH 71 drivers detour via the S. Congress Avenue exit to the frontage road; westbound drivers use the Burleson Road/Woodward Street exit, and TxDOT advises drivers to remain alert, follow signs and expect delays.
Capital Express South is the $548 million project, funded by CAMPO and TxDOT and built by Fluor Corporation, that is adding two high-occupancy-vehicle managed lanes in each direction along I-35 between SH 71/Ben White Boulevard and SH 45 Southeast, with a southbound bypass lane at Stassney Lane and William Cannon Drive and rebuilt ramps. Construction began in November 2022 and is anticipated to finish in late 2028, weather permitting.
