November opens the way October closed in Austin: mild. The station's own weather feed, read in the first hour of Sunday, showed 76.6 degrees under overcast skies, humidity at 83 percent, a south-southeast wind at about 8 miles an hour and only a 4 percent precipitation probability — a gray, quiet start to the first day of the month, with clocks falling back at 2 a.m. as daylight saving time ends.

Sunday itself is a building day. weather.com's Austin outlook calls for partly cloudy skies and a high of 85 degrees, with rain chances at just 10 percent and an overnight low of 68. The station feed and the national outlook differ on the overnight sky — the feed's snapshot is overcast while the national service reads the night as clear — but they agree on the shape of the day: dry, warm for November, and increasingly cloudy by nightfall.

Monday keeps the warmth and adds the first threat of rain. The outlook has Austin mostly cloudy with a high of 85 again, then thunderstorms arriving late Monday night with rain chances at 80 percent. That system is the front door to the week's headline event: Election Day.

Tuesday, November 3 — when Travis County's 201 vote centers open at 7 a.m. — is forecast for morning thunderstorms, a high of 76 and an 80 percent rain chance, with about a sixth of an inch of rain expected before the storms clear out and Tuesday night turns clear and cooler, down to 54. Voters heading out early Tuesday should plan for wet roads and keep an umbrella in the car; by Wednesday the outlook turns mostly sunny with a high of 75. No weather alerts were in effect for Austin at filing.
