Anthony Edwards to Undergo Knee Surgery and Miss Up to Two Months for the Timberwolves (AUSTIN CAPITAL NEWS)

Minnesota Timberwolves star guard Anthony Edwards will undergo an arthroscopic procedure on his right knee and miss up to two months, ESPN's Shams Charania reported Tuesday, in a report carried by Hoops Rumors, Basketball Network, ClutchPoints and Bleacher Report. Edwards has tried to play through knee pain, Hoops Rumors noted, and has now opted for the surgery.

The timing lands in the middle of a sensational start. Edwards has averaged 33.3 points on 48.1 percent shooting, including 40 percent from beyond the arc, through his first four games, according to Basketball Network, and was coming off a 47-point game against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday night. He had been listed as questionable due to right knee injury management ahead of Wednesday's game against the Golden State Warriors, per Bleacher Report's account.

The knee has been a recurring issue. Edwards dealt with problems in both knees last season, including a left knee hyperextension and a bone bruise during Minnesota's first-round playoff series against Denver in April, according to Bleacher Report.

Minnesota retooled around its backcourt this season, letting go of Julius Randle and Naz Reid to acquire All-Star guard LaMelo Ball, who is averaging 14.8 points and 6.3 assists, Basketball Network reported. Holding a place in a crowded Western Conference without the player who drives its offense is now the Timberwolves' task for up to two months, with the hope carried in the reports that fixing the knee now leaves Edwards healthy for the stretch run.
