Early voting for the November 3 midterm election enters its final week on Monday, and Travis County is voting at a pace rarely seen in a midterm. Through Friday, the Texas Secretary of State's file counted 219,486 voters in Travis County — 23.2 percent of the county's registered voters — with five days of early voting still to go.

The surge started on the first day. A total of 40,777 people voted in person on Monday, October 19 — the county's highest first-day midterm turnout this century — and 40,359 more voted in person on Tuesday. The busiest sites over the opening days were Bee Cave City Hall, the Ben Hur Shrine Center and the Pflugerville ISD Rock Gym.

Travis is part of a statewide wave. The Secretary of State's file counted 3,498,565 in-person voters and 189,659 mail ballots received across Texas through Friday. Harris County led the state at 473,204 voters, followed by Dallas at 315,090, Tarrant at 260,801 and Bexar at 239,736.

Early voting runs through Friday, October 30, at vote centers across Travis County; the Travis County Correctional Complex location opens only on the final day. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3.
