Texas Has a Record 19 Million Registered Voters Heading Into the Nov. 3 Election, Secretary of State Robert Howden Announces
The announcement landed as early voting closed on Friday: the largest electorate in state history, with Election Day itself - Tuesday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. - still to come.

Texas will vote on Tuesday with the largest electorate in its history. Secretary of State Robert Howden announced that the state has 19 million registered voters - a record number ahead of the November 3 election - as early voting ended on Friday, according to the Capital Highlights column published Friday.
'Texas continues to see strong voter registration numbers, and we want every eligible Texan to be prepared to participate in the upcoming election,' Howden said.
The record is about the size of the electorate, not the turnout - although this cycle has produced records on that side of the ledger too, with early ballots cast statewide passing the entire 2022 early-vote total during the week. Registration is the ceiling every turnout figure is measured against: 19 million names on the rolls is the pool from which Tuesday's electorate will be drawn, in a midterm whose Senate and governor's races have drawn national money and national attention to Texas.
For voters who did not cast an early ballot, the remaining step is Election Day itself: polls open Tuesday, November 3, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and any registered voter can find their polling place at votetexas.gov, the nonpartisan lookup operated by the secretary of state's office. In Travis County, voters may cast a ballot at any of the county's Election Day vote centers.
