Austin is getting PGA Tour golf back this fall. The Austin Championship, a new FedEx Cup Fall event at the Fazio Canyons course at Barton Creek Resort, is scheduled for November 12-15 - the Tour's first Austin stop in the three years since the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play left Austin Country Club.

The road to the first tee has not been smooth. Good Good Golf was originally expected to sponsor the event before an August 21 advertisement promoting its driver collaboration with Callaway - a video depicting co-founder Garrett Clark shoving a woman to the ground - sparked widespread backlash; PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp later announced the sponsors were moving away from the tournament. Golfweek reported Saturday that Compliance Solutions is expected to be announced as a presenting sponsor, with an official PGA Tour announcement expected soon, potentially as early as Monday.

Tournament director Ian Helm told Golfweek the market carried the event through the upheaval. 'It's just a testament that Austin was the right market, no matter the title sponsor,' Helm said. 'It's a community that loves PGA Tour golf, and I think it's going to continue to support it no matter the title.' The field leans local by design: sponsor exemptions include former University of Texas standouts Christiaan Maas and Tommy Morrison, Austin native Cole Sherwood, and rising name Miles Russell.

Helm defined a successful first year plainly: 'getting as many people as possible to come out and experience it, but ultimately having them leave with a positive experience.' The venue sits about 15 minutes from downtown, with the skyline visible from parts of the course - and, Helm noted, screens near the 18th green so fans can check the Longhorns and Aggies scores during football season.
