CapMetro Rides Are Free on Election Day in Austin — and Round Rock's Routes Join the Fare-Free Push to the Polls
No fare, no pass, no excuse about the ride: on Tuesday, Nov. 3, getting to a vote center by bus in Austin costs nothing, and Round Rock's routes and on-demand rides are in the program too.

Austinites who still need a ride to cast a vote in the 2026 midterms can get one for free. Rides on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3, will be free across CapMetro's network, CultureMap Austin reported on Nov. 2 in coverage read this cycle — the fare-free voting arrangement between the city and its transit authority, continued for the 2026 general election under a City Council resolution adopted May 28 that directed the city manager to keep the Election Day partnership in place.
The program reaches past the city line. Round Rock residents can ride for free on Tuesday as part of CapMetro's 'Fare-Free to Vote' initiative, the City of Round Rock said on its official news page, read in full this cycle: free rides will be available on all Round Rock routes throughout Election Day, and Round Rock Rides — the city's on-demand service — will also participate, provided riders follow the standard reservation procedures and availability. The city added the fine print plainly: free fares are available on Election Day only, with no refunds on reservations booked before the promotion.
The timing is the point. Early voting ended Friday, which makes Tuesday the last chance for the roughly half of Travis County's registered voters who have not yet cast a ballot — and rain is in the Election Day forecast, with the station's live feed putting the chance at 61%. A free bus does not shorten a line at a vote center, and polls still close at 7 p.m., but it removes one of the oldest reasons a vote goes uncast: getting there. On Tuesday in Austin, that reason is free to solve.
